Ambitious Leader’s Program (ALP) will accept applications for enrolment

ALP accepts new graduate students as first-year master’s students and transfer students as second-year master’s students.

(1) Apply for the graduate school at Hokkaido University

1. Find your supervisor

Graduate students conduct the research under the guidance of their supervisors.
In order to enter the graduate school of Hokkaido University, you need to find a faculty member who is willing to be your supervisor. Find your supervisor from following the departments:

  • Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division,
    Graduate School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering
  • Graduate School of Life Science
  • Division of Environmental Materials Science,
    Graduate School of Environmental Science
  • Department of Mathematics, Graduate School of Science
  • Division of Quantum Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering

2. Apply for the graduate school

3. Take the entrance examination for the graduate school

4. Enter Hokkaido University as a graduate student

(2) Take the examination for Ambitious Leader’s Program

 1. For new graduate students (1st year master course)

Application guidance will be held on June/7 and Jun/9.

Application Deadline: July/19 (Wed) noon
Only English scores are accepted by July/28(Fri).

【Important】You must submit your score of one of the following English tests;
1) TOEFL official test, 2) TOEFL-ITP and 3) TOEIC. The scores issued in and after April/2012 is accepted.

The applicants who pass the first stage must go through oral examination that is scheduled in the end of August.

 

2. For graduate students in 2nd year master course (Transfer Exams)

ALP accepts transfer applicants who wish to participate in the program as second-year graduate students.

Application guidance will be held in the beginning of June.

Application Deadline: June/21 (Wed) noon
Only English scores are accepted by June/29 (Fri).

【Important】You must submit your score of one of the following English tests;
1) TOEFL official test, 2) TOEFL-ITP and 3) TOEIC. The scores issued in and after April/2011 is accepted.

The following tasks are given to the applicants who pass the first stage. Please select one and submit the booklets (A4 format/15-20 pages).

Submission Deadline: August/21 (Mon) noon
Oral Examination: August/30 and 31

Task 1: (Research Overview of Current Studies in Unknown Fields and Proposal of Interdisciplinary Study)
Select one research topic that is not the major subject in your research laboratory. The main purpose of this task is to investigate and analyze research papers as well as review the latest research conditions. Finally, propose a brief interdisciplinary research by applying your own studies. If you choose Task 1, then the topic for research should not be related to the experiments and research themes undertaken in your laboratory.

Task 2: (Collaboration between Mathematics and Science)
Task 2 is only for students whose majors are either Materials Science or Mathematics and who conduct math-science collaborative research. In either case, they are able to propose practical studies related to their own research fields.
